The Legend
The Rooster earned his place in the zodiac through his most famous trait: punctuality.
In ancient China, the Rooster's crowing every morning told people what time it was. Grateful for this service, humans begged the Jade Emperor to honor the Rooster with a place among the zodiac animals.
During the great race, the Rooster woke early and ran toward the finish line. He encountered the Dog along the way, and they traveled together. But as they neared the destination, the Rooster became suddenly competitive and overtook the Dog – which is why the Rooster is tenth and the Dog is eleventh.
Another legend tells that the Rooster, the Goat, and the Monkey worked together to cross the river on a raft. It was the Rooster who spotted the raft – his sharp eyes saved them all.

What the Rooster Represents
The Rooster symbolizes faithfulness, courage, and hard work. In Chinese culture, the Rooster's crow is believed to banish ghosts – his call is a brave declaration against darkness.
